The Story Of Nicholas "Quick Nick" DeCarlo
Nick has 12 years of racing experience that have earned him six championships. Nick has been around racing and race tracks since he was just a baby, watching his Dad, Terry Sr., race each Saturday night at Antioch Speedway (California). Nick not only watched his dad, he watched all of the local stars, including names like Jim Pettit II, Bobby Hogge III, Robert Miller, Keith Brown, Larry Damitz, Ed Sans Jr. and many others. Nick is no stranger to racing, as he has grown up with it as part of his life. Even his older sister, Teri Marie DeCarlo has dazzled the racing community along side her little brother.
During Nick's racing career, friends and family were so thrilled at watching the youngster tear it up on the track, that nobody remembered to keep track of all of his accomplishments. He has won many races and many different levels, has proven to be a consistent top five performer. If you count the number of trophies that nearly fill his house, you know Nick has had a tremendous career (efforts are under way to count each of his trophies and try to determine all of his accomplishments).
While Nick loves racing, he does find time off the track to enjoy some leisure time. He spends his free time riding motorcycles, bowling, playing paintball and finds time to do a little couch surfing wth Tricky Troy Foulger. He is currently a senior in high school and will graduate in June 2008.
Nick is not just a race car driver. Nick has grown up learning to work on the race cars. He is a talented artist and also has the ability to build and fabricate needed parts for his race cars. He does all of his own building, fabricating, lettering and repairs to his race cars. He understands the work and dedication it takes to be successful on the track. It begins with preparation before the car and driver take the track.
Nick is a special person who is a joy to be around. He has a fun loving attitude. He has proven to be a great practical joker and often leaves you laughing almost to the point of tears. He has tremendous love for his family and enjoys being close to them. You might just see him riding wheelies on his motorcycle up and down the street, or racing through the streets on his quad. Nick is never far from something that goes fast.
Nick's Racing Career
At the age of 5, Nick began his racing career at Delta Speedway in Stockton, CA, racing in a Box Stock. He quickly found his favorite race, the Turkey Shoot, where you could win a turkey. Nick continued to race and learn the skills of driving in the box stocks. In 1998, at only 8 years old, Nick won the Delta Speedway Box Stock Championship.
Between 2001 and 2003, Nick spent his time racing anything he could. He raced Speedway Karts, 125 Outlaw Karts and 500 Outlaw Karts. At the age of 13, Nick won his second career Championship in the 500 Outlaw Karts at Vallejo Speedway II.
The following year, Nick moved his racing to CORA Speedway located in Dixon, CA. In 2004, Nick won the 500 Outlaw Kart Championship at CORA. In 2005, he won two Championships, taking the Speedway Kart title and the 600 Mini Sprint title. Nick returned to defend his 600 Mini Sprint title in 2006 and again won the CORA Speedway Championship.
At the age of 16, Nick was ready to move up in his racing career. In 2007, Nick competed in a crate Late Model at Ocean Speedway (Watsonville, CA) where he was runner-up for the Rookie Of The Year and finished the season 6th in the final point standings. He also made several starts in a spec Wingless Sprint car at Antioch Speedway.
In 2008, Nick built a second crate Late Model, which he will compete with again at Ocean Speedway. He has also been offered a chance to drive a UMP Dirt Modified owned by Hollywood Rad Brad Coehlo. Nick will drive the Modified at Antioch Speedway and other tracks. Nick is planning on racing the Modified at the Dirt Modified Nationals in Tulare California in September 2008. He will also make some appearances in a Dan Gonderman owned spec Wingless Sprint car.
Nick and racing in the eyes of mom, Danette DeCarlo
"People always
ask me how I can stay so calm. I have been around racing for 30
years. I know Nick is a respectful driver, he's cautious and uses
every safety precaution there is. Nick has the skill to race and knows
what he is doing. He never ceases to amaze me."
